01 Objective

Improve surface modeling and automotive styling skills in CATIA using a real-world reference vehicle.

02 Problem Statement

Automotive body surfaces demand class-A quality — smooth, continuous curvature with no visible surface breaks — which is difficult to achieve without disciplined surfacing technique.

03 Design Process

Using engineering blueprints, I traced reference images with CATIA's Freestyle tools and developed smooth, continuous surfaces for the exterior body, then applied materials and rendered the final model.

04 CAD Models

Full exterior body surface model built in CATIA Freestyle from traced blueprint geometry.

05 Design Decisions

Prioritized surface continuity (curvature-continuous transitions) over shortcutting with simpler tangent-only surfaces, to achieve a more convincing automotive-grade finish.

06 Materials

Automotive paint and glass materials applied for the final render.

07 Challenges

Achieving class-A, curvature-continuous surface quality from traced blueprint references.

08 Results & Outcomes

Produced a blueprint-accurate exterior surface model with a realistic automotive-grade finish.

09 Learnings

Built real fluency in class-A style surfacing — directly relevant to any exterior styling or aerodynamic fairing work.
